- <p> In a just world, a celebrated rock personality would
- embark on a plane and fall in love with the shy, unglamorous
- geriatric nurse seated next to him. But when U2 bassist ADAM
- CLAYTON flew from New York City to Los Angeles for the Grammy
- Awards last winter, his destiny took a different shape_a lanky,
- exotic one. His cabinmate? Supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL, of course.
- As the crazy vagaries of fate would have it, Clayton had always
- had a mad crush on the sometime girlfriend of Robert De Niro.
- What luck! The beautiful Brit took warmly to the bespectacled
- Irishman, even though she was en route to a big date with more
- readily recognizable musicmaker Eric Clapton. A few months later
- and Campbell is sporting a dazzling antique diamond ring. She
- announced their engagement on the Irish talk show Kenny Live
- last week. No word yet on a wedding date. Isn't it comforting
- to know that fairy tales still happen?
